The Art of Law

We’re moving quickly to set up our fund structure… and I have been spending (too) many hours talking to attorneys about the “right” way to build our fund.  I am trying to strike the balance between making haste and rushing.

It reminds me of the work of architect and client.  The first choice is how to situate the building on the site. That’s a pivotal decision, because once that foundation is laid, you’re committed.

Interesting to me is that as many as there are lawyers, there are opinions about how to structure. Where to domicile the RIA and the Fund? LLCs or LPs?

I guess that’s why it’s the practice of law: it’s a blend of science and art.

Are we there yet?
